Although the geographical domain of AMAGE includes about 65 countries in Africa and the middle East only 14 countries from AMAGE region are actively involved in AMAGE activities mainly due to lack of communication ,low resources and loss of interest among other causes.

We in AMAGE struggled against These difficulties to keep going on work in AMAGE with kind help of regional organizations and few pharmaceutical companies.

Low economic standards situation in most of AMAGE countries represented another barrier to the work.

AMAGE Training Projects in East Africa

Hands on training on early detection of colorectal cancer and HCC

First phase

  • First phase in Cairo December 2018 by hands on training for 8 delegates from four East Africa countries : Ethiopia , Kenya , Tanzania ,Uganda.

  • Training was conducted in the Combined Endoscopy Unit and Tropical Medicine Department , Ain Shams University Hospital Cairo,Egypt.

The training included lectures ,hands on training on endoscopy models and hands on training on patients for 2 weeks under supervision of 20 trainers  from different Egyptian universities and a trainer fro South Africa.

Second Phase

  • The Second Phase of AMAGE Training Projects in East Africa 
  • It was launched  in Uganda and Tanzania by a  one week visit to   Kampala  city  and  another 8 days visit to Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar Essalam for Hands on training on early detection of colorectal cancer and HCC using  clonoscopy  and  US  with lectures presentation.

Two webinars were organized by AMAGE on the Impact of COVID- 19 on Gastroenterology and Hepatology Practice.

A third webinar was organized on the impact of climate change on liver and gut health.

 

The Climate African Group (CAG) was established by AMAGE in 2020  Three articles were published on the impact of climate change on the liver and gut health.

  • (10 chapters) titled “The Impact of Climate Change on Gut Health in Africa) all editors and authors are among AMAGE members in collaboration with the Climate Change Working Group of the WGO .

Dar Es-salam and Zanzibar Training

AMAGE training activity was organized in September 2022 in Muhimbili National Hospital ,Dar Ess- salam and Mnazi Mmoga Hospital,Zanzibar.

-Training was done on colonoscopy abdominal Us and EUS by 6 AMAGE Experts.

AMAGE training team participated in the 1st National Conference of the Tanzanian Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Society (TAGES).
